In recent years, the health of the mouth has been strongly linked to health of the body. Studies have shown that gum disease can be a warning sign of heart disease. This knowledge has led holistic dentists such as Dr. Nathan Pfister of Biodentist Alabama to look for the underlying cause of dental problems, rather than just treating the symptoms. In addition to considering the whole patient, holistic dentists are also diligent about keeping their patients’ mouths free of mercury, which is often found in silver filings.
For many years, dentists used metal fillings for cavities because they were believed to be the most durable. However, the silver metal fillings contain mercury, which has been shown to result in mercury toxicity in the body. The mercury is activated when the patient chews, grinds their teeth, and brushes their teeth.
As a holistic dentist Dr. Nathan Pfister of Biodentist Alabama, is committed to only using mercury free materials during restorative oral treatments. In addition to minimizing the risks of toxicity, the fillings that are made of composite plastic materials or ceramic are white or tooth colored and are more aesthetically pleasing.
If you already have metal fillings in your mouth and are concerned, you can discuss that with Dr. Pfister. In some cases, he will not recommend having the fillings replaced until an individual’s health is stable. When a filling does need to be removed, Dr. Pfister follows a very strict IAOMT protocol to make sure that everyone in the room remains safe. This includes proper disposal of the metal to ensure that it stays out of the environment.

Patients who eliminate or avoid toxins have better overall health and wellbeing. Some patients who have experienced toxicity issues state that those problems stopped or improved as soon as the mercury was removed. Mercury commonly affects conditions such as anxiety, sleeplessness, mental impairment, and high blood pressure.
Dr. Pfister ensures mercury safe dentistry for his patients across the Dothan region. He not only provides excellent dental care, he also takes the time to educate his patients about what to expect and how to achieve the best in oral care and overall wellness.
